I believe that every woman misses out on certain things in life, whether it be experiences or things left untold. As a young woman who is an evolving feminist, becoming more and more intolerant of the growing inequality in today's society, I think all women, no matter how young or old they may be, need to know these ten things.
ONE // You are beautiful. You are beautiful regardless of your race, gender, religion, or weight. You are beautiful no matter who does or does not see it. You have been perfectly crafted into the stunning human being that you are. Live by that.
TWO // The number on the scale does not measure your worth. It doesn't now and it never will.
THREE // Whoever it is that you date or marry, they do not define you. You are not to be known as "so-and-so's wife/girlfriend." That is not your name. Your name is what your birth giver decided to name you. Nothing more, nothing less.
FOUR // No matter where you come from, what your financial situation is, your education is important for the future of humanity, but more importantly, for yourself. It may be hard, but find a way to make it happen. It's worth it, I promise.
FIVE // Don't ever let anyone make you feel uncomfortable or scared. If they do, either stand up for yourself or get help. If you are in danger, try your hardest to get someone's attention. Fight for the life you were meant to live.
SIX // Always be kind to others (assuming they're not bashing you or trying to hurt you). Say thank you, let someone know that you care for their well being. Wish someone a good day. You never know, they may need some kindness and compassion in their life.
SEVEN // Fight for what you believe in. If someone looks oddly at you for wearing a hijab, ignore them. They are obviously not informed or understanding of your religion. Fight for basic fundamental human rights that every woman should have, such as equal pay and single body standards (#freethenipple).
EIGHT // Don't let the judgemental views and "standards" of society keep you from wearing a certain article of clothing, dying your hair a certain color, going to Target in your pjs, ordering the dessert or the larger drink, or wearing pastel colored lipstick. Why should we abide by rules that don't even exist?
NINE // Do not ever let a man (or woman) make you feel as if you are worthless or less of a person. You matter. They are not the determining factor of how beautiful, successful, or important you are. And if they ever harm you, whether it be emotionally, physically, or spiritually, leave them right this second. Don't even allow yourself time to linger on options that will only prolong the suffering.
TEN // You are of utmost value, importance, and worth. You were when you were just a tiny organism in the womb, you are now in all of your beauty, and you always will be, regardless of age or health.
You are loved.
You are valued.
You are of utmost worth.
You are important.
